GlendaleOUT will host a series of inclusive, welcoming events for 2023 Pride.
Every June the LGBTQIA+ community pays homage to the night of June 28, 1969 when patrons at the gay bar, Stonewall Inn, decided that would be the night the culture of police raids and harassment would end. That raid in NYC led to six nights of response and protest from the queer community, an uprising that would become the annual event we call Pride.

Previously known as YWCA Glendale and Pasadena’s 21-Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge, the 2022 Stand Against Racism Challenge is designed to establish dedicated time and space to building more effective social justice habits, particularly those dealing with issues of race, power, privilege, and leadership. Participants log on either through the app or by website and are presented with challenges and activities like reading an article, listening to a podcast, reflecting on personal experiences, and more. Participation in the Challenge gives us insight into how racial and social injustice impact our community, while also allowing us to connect and identify ways to dismantle racism and other forms of discrimination.

In 2020, in response to the nationwide dialogue on race and equity, and as part of a long-term effort to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion, the City of Glendale took a historic step of reckoning. It became the first city in California and the third in the nation, to pass a sundown town resolution. The resolution acknowledges and apologizes for Glendale’s racist past and pledges to work towards an anti-racist future. Additionally, the resolution acknowledges the local history of the Ku Klux Klan, the American Nazi party and other white supremacist groups and recognizes that redlining, a process that restricted access to African Americans and minorities to certain neighborhoods, was prevalent in the City for decades. This exhibition provides a historical and contemporary narrative to accompany this critical moment.
