Promoting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Local Government and the Glendale Unified School District
In January 2021, the Coalition advocated for and successfully moved the City of Glendale to make the City Manager Hiring Process open and led by an Outside Hiring Firm. The Coalition’s Housing and Local Policy Government Change Task Forces monitor this implementation and identify opportunities to advance racial equity.
The Coalition also supported Glendale Unified School District’s ongoing efforts to create and implement Culturally Relevant and Responsive Education, with members serving on the volunteer CRRE Working Group throughout the 2020-21 school year.
Housing Justice
On February 16, 2021, the YWCA, in partnership with the Housing Policies and Procedures Task Force, presented a request for the City to research the implementation of a Tenant/Landlord Advisory Body. The implementation of such a model promotes better protections for renters and heightened accountability for property owners. On August 23, 2021, the City of Glendale City Council and Housing Authority passed a motion to implement a Tenant/Landlord Ad-Hoc Committee for 12 months. The Coalition’s Housing and Local Policy Government Change Task Forces will continue to monitor this implementation and identify opportunities to advance racial equity.
